Repackaging a slew of solutions targeted at the UC market with a new name doesn’t really inspire too much confidence. So what features of the new Lync UC solution are an improvement over those that OCS delivered ? Also the intention of pricing it CAL based standard $31 (which I doubt anyone would buy ) over enterprise cost $107 seems to be on the low end. The biggest advantage Microsoft possesses over its competition is that it rules the data desktop. Now if I were an IT manager, I would prefer buying the Lync as well as one total solution with the default Office suite ( be it upgrade or a brand new install ). But where do I go for the hardware components – I still need to buy the phones et al. A complete desktop UC solution ( like the focus of Skype ) maybe the future ( of course enterprise smart phones may change that all ).
