Social networking and UC

Social networking is the buzz to deliver outreach messages  these days.  Twitter and  Facebook are staple content on messaging mechanisms.   So can social networks and unified communications work together ? What are the options available ?  How can be entwined to deliver high productivity and low cost systems for customer ?   Would there be a Facebook tool as opposed to any of the instant messaging tools ? Tie in all the chat content into the social networking systems and lo behold – all your communication is networked as well.  Privacy issues abound for enterprise customers knowing that Facebook  hasn’t exactly  been forthright in allowing its applications readily share user content but they seem to be working on clearing some of those issues.
